“The totalitarian phenomenon is not to be understood without making an allowance for the thesis that some important part of every society consists of people who actively want tyranny: either to exercise it themselves or — much more mysteriously — to submit to it.”  – French philosopher Jean-François Revel

I often wonder why I don’t get more involved in politics. I certainly get revved up by what our government, the courts, the lobbyists and politicians have become. It seems like the more despicable these public servants are the more press they get and the more money fills their coffers. Lies and lies and lies. Greed and power. These horrible human specimens are motivated by fame even if they are famous for something untoward or evil. Sexual predators, rapists, grifters, all above the law. And the voters don’t care. They watch our democracy imperiled and they cheer. The bandage has been pulled back and the whole oozing wound is exposed. Hatred, violence, racism. I hear the seagulls in the Finding Nemo movie, “Mine! Mine! Mine! Mine!” My hope for humanity is waning. What to do? What to do?
